I
am Matt Bury, a multi discipline designer with over
6 years of industry experience.
First
and foremost I am a graphic designer, all round good
guy and instigator, to some a stylist, to others a
strategist, to those in the know, a thinker and to
those in the dark the answer...
I do what I say and deliver, offering innovative and
effective solutions to any given brief, developed
through years of direct experience working in all
areas of graphic design with varying clients and budgets
and a healthy/unhealthy obsession to make every job
my best with speed, accuracy, commitment and originality.
With extensive knowledge and understanding of marketing
and branding, I value the implementation of a solid
strategy and the belief that a brand should always
be more than just a logo. I do loads and it’s
all geared to the client’s objectives, including;
The creation and implementation of Corporate Identity,
the design and production of print, publishing, advertising,
website and multimedia, fashion graphics, print design,
branding, brochures and literature, event planning,
marketing campaigns, point of sale, promotional concepts
and direct mail.
I am passionate about my work, my aim is that I not
only meet, but surpass the expectations of all clients
I have the pleasure of working with.
When I’m
not working…
I always have a fistful of self directed projects
on the go, allowing me to produce experimental design
work and challenge my skills base, these include;
publications, prints and concept work.
I try my best to avoid living life around a TV schedule,
afterall - you don't win prizes watching gameshows!
I am an inspiration junkie, I like to get out and
about whenever possible; explore and socialise. Sometimes
it’s better to look out of the window instead
of in a book, I watch too many films, I always have
my eyes wide open and I love to visit new places,
exploring and taking photographs.
Under the guise ‘Mr.B’ I promote bands,
instigate and organise INDEPENDENT (www.joinourfaction.com),
an ongoing series of live music events which showcase
the best unsigned bands from in and around Blackburn
and throughout the North West of England and beyond.
Did
I mention that I like steak?

BARBARELLA...
Last
week I visited Manchester based agency Hazeldine-Coltas
for an interview, I was asked to produce concept
work for a ficticious brief. The brief was...
"Create a poster for a new Fantasy Musical
based on the 1968 film 'BARBARELLA (Queen of
the Galaxy)'. The poster should create the retro/kitsch
feel but still give the impression of a big
budget slick show. The character 'Pygar' is
an angel, so you will need to portray this.
Please research the film."
Copy and 3 images were supplied.
Here's what I came up with...

THRASH METAL...
Events
orgainisors 'CORRUPTED' commissioned artwork
this week for a 'Thrash Metal Night'.
For this design concept I sought inspiration
from 1980's 'toxic paranoia' and B-Movies, fonts
were inspired by skateboard graphics from the
same period.

I am now well on with the task of translating
the style and band's personality into a fully-fucnctional
website. Watch this space!
Other projects waiting in the wings are:
Cellar Bar Brochure/DVD Promo, Coffee Fix Website,
Sharon Pierre Website/Brochure, Pure Sound &
Lighting Corp ID/Website...and anything else
that comes my way...

Cellar Bar
For
the past couple of months I have been heavily
involved with the re-launch of the Cellar Bar
in Blackburn.. both on the design/marketing
and operations front...
More than just a music venue, the CELLAR BAR
continues to provide a collective space for
Blackburn’s creative talent, musicians
and 24 hour party people, a platform for them
to show off their diversity, hook up and have
the best of times all in sanctuary from the
bleak and wet streets of Blackburn.
Firmly
on the map as an important cultural hub in the
North West, the Grade 2 listed Georgian building
showcases some of the best un-signed live bands
around from varying genres and usually free
of charge. The heart of Blackburn’s ‘scene’,
there’s no other place like it. Nowhere
in town comes close.
Check out the 'lifestyle' portfolio pages for
fresh examples of my work from this project.

Morning Call Album Artwork...
Having
enlisted with ‘The Talent League’
linked to London’s Excellence Records –
Blackburn based band Morning Call required artwork
and branding fast. They gave me a day to fulfil
their album brief, meeting a surprise deadline
to launch their album in Canada and the USA. The
artwork is also being used on iTunes and other
download sites.

Now that's out of the way...
Designing
my own website has been a strange experience,
I'm glad the bulk of it is out of the way, leaving
me free to get on and keep on keeping on. I've
got a fat stack of projects piling up so updating
the pages of the site isn't going to be hard.
Fresh material will be coming your way soon, from
new clients and also from my busy workshop of
self directed projects, until then enjoy what's
on offer. |

CS3...
It's
been a long time coming but this week it actually
happened. Adobe Creative Suite 3 landed on my
desktop and I finally got to have a do! I've been
anticipating the release of this software more
than you can imagine, forget about Play Station
3, forget about Spider-man 3, you can keep them
both. I'll let you know how I get on, until then
it's play time! |
